ABOUT HOXTON PRESS

Hoxton Press is the site of Hackney Council’s exciting new development promoted by Hackney Council and Anthology. Located on the historical Colville Estate, this site forms an interesting part of London’s history. In the late 19th Century this location was the site of a paper and craft company owned by the Mullord Brothers. Here they created distinctive, Victorian era playing cards and lace papers and in honour of this company’s loving devotion to their craft, the new development has received the name of Anthology Hoxton Press.
Hackney Council is working with Anthology on this exciting part of the regeneration of the Colville Estate. In the absence of any government funding, the properties sold at Anthology Hoxton Press will help pay for hundreds of new council homes for social rent and shared ownership for local people nearby.

OUR PROJECT

As part of this local landmark development the project designers asked us to integrate two large specialised awnings into a roof for the use of a new local cafĂ© with outdoor dining facilities. The awnings needed to be of a commercial standard and able to provide extensive shade and protection. We worked closely on the design with Wates construction’s design team to provide two large 9m x 3.5m retractable awnings which disappear into the building when retracted and appear as if by magic when the local patrons need protection.
