Concept Design Phase
At Shade-Space, we carefully balanced aesthetic appeal with structural and logistical constraints presented by the building. From the outset, our team considered structural support, accessibility challenges and installation feasibility while maintaining the client’s design vision.
We initially presented several design options, refining them based on feedback before producing 3D visualisations to ensure the final selection aligned with the client’s expectations.
Construction & Planning Design Phase
Working in collaboration with architects, engineers, builders and planning teams, Shade-Space navigated the critical construction elements to develop a fully integrated 3D model. This model served as a valuable tool to facilitate discussion and decision-making, with each phase undergoing approval to move closer to the final design.
During this phase, design accessories were carefully reviewed with the client. Retractable pergola systems offer a range of integrated options such as:

âś… Supplementary features like heaters, fans, and sound systems
Los Mochis presented unique installation challenges beyond typical design considerations. One major hurdle was transporting materials to the ninth-floor terrace in a location with:
- A narrow street
- Proximity to London Underground infrastructure
- Limited access for traditional cranes due to road closure permits
To overcome this, our team identified a Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) as a viable solution. However, this required each crate from the manufacturer to be under 400kg. Additionally, space constraints on the terrace meant materials had to be lifted in three separate night operations, each dependent on weather conditions.
Thankfully, precise planning ensured a seamless lifting process, allowing all components to be delivered without issue.
We worked with the client to create a unique outdoor seating and dining area which was as streamlined and as aesthetically pleasing as possible.
To achieve this effect we installed retractable pergola systems to protect against sun and medium rain fall whilst providing a comfortable outdoor dining experience for the patrons of this iconic restaurant.
Completion & Impact
The Los Mochis restaurant & terrace opened to significant publicity and has been a resounding success. With seating capacity for 400 guests, the terrace is a key revenue driver for the restaurant.
The pergola system provides year-round usability, adapting seamlessly to all weather conditions:
In summer – An open, airy space perfect for alfresco dining.
In winter – A warm, enclosed environment with breath-taking views of London’s skyline & St. Paul’s Cathedral.
